"A System for Success" The Program The Cary Bulls Baseball program provides a unique baseball experience for promising 16 & under players from the Cary area. The Bulls are sponsored by Cary American Legion Post # 67 and there is no fees required of the players. Formed in 1997, they became the first Jr. Legion team in North Carolina. That number has grown to over 100 teams since then. Our goal is to develop young men through baseball and our method is to coach the players, not the game. We encourage the players to use their love for the game and playing abilities to help them go to and graduate from college. 47 Bulls have gone on to play in college and 5 in the pros from our first 8 graduating classes. Our program emphasizes the use of baseball to provide future opportunities. The Schedule The Bulls play a high level of baseball, with a typical schedule of 40 regular season games and post-season tournament. Single games are played Tuesday through Thursday nights and daytime doubleheaders are played on Saturdays and Sundays. Home games are played at Green Hope High School. We stay fairly close to home during the week but travel all over the state on weekends. The regular season begins around May 20th and the playoffs begin around July 10th. The state championship game is typically played during the last week of July. The Bulls usually play 43-45 games. This college-type schedule and approach allows the players to experience first-hand the commitment required to follow their baseball dreams of playing at the next levels

The System The Cary Bull's approach to the game of baseball is distinctly different from most other programs.. Behind the state championships and consistent success, there is an ideology, a method to the madness. We have developed a system which guides us in making decisions. We don't focus on winning games. We try to develop a winning approach to every situation. Everyone plays an important part on our team. We develop good teammates. We want our players to understand the game. We want to be well-prepared, mentally and physically. We leave the results of the game on the field. We want the players to have confidence in this system and to use it's principles to help them in the game of life. The Bulls' believe that for the team to reach its full potential in the playoffs, we must give every player the opportunity to develop during the regular season. We use the regular season for evaluation, instruction, and practice. Substitutions are scripted out before every game so that, regardless of the score, each player gets the playing time he needs to develop. We try to find out as much about our team as possible. We identify our strengths and weaknesses. We improve our skills, abilities and knowledge. We gain confidence in ourselves and our teammates. We learn to deal with our successes and our failures. When the playoffs start we should be ready. The Players Playing for the Cary Bulls is a privilege and players are not charged to participate. To be eligible players must have been born in 1990 or later and reside in the Cary area. Players born in 1990 must get a release from the American Legion team they are assigned to play for. At least six 15 & under players will be selected. Players are selected from area high schools during a two-day tryout. The first day is a series of tests used to evaluate athleticism and skill level. The second day is a scrimmage used to evaluate performance and effectiveness. Players are selected by position and usually 16-18 players are offered specific roles. Players and parents must accept these roles for placement on the team.
